KH Meets Dad

Image
Arranged my work trips so that I would be home on the first week of November. The main reason for that was my family's annual for All Souls' Day trip to Teluk Intan. All Saints' Day falls on the 1st of November while All Souls' Day is a day after that. Both important dates were on the weekend so it was easier to plan. On Saturday, we attended the obligatory mass in KL. In the afternoon, KH, SK and I met up at Owls Cafe in Bukit Jalil. Immediately fell in love with their waffles although I'm not a waffle person. Light and fluffy and the crown jewel of Earl Grey ice cream really made it a winner. Unfortunately, I wasn't fond of their coffee. KH tried their rose coffee, but it just reminded me of kopi sirap ros . Also tried a slice of black sesame cheese cake. Interesting fusion. But if not for the waffles, do go there for the unique owl-themed decorations and abundance of natural lighting makes it a great place for photography. All Souls' Day 2014 w

Belated Birthday Singapore

Image
What's nicer that a belated birthday dinner? A belated home-cooked dinner of course. Tater caught me on Monday evening, on the day I had arrived from KL. He was on leave and had the time to whip up his mum's chicken and rice casserole. Amazing that he has recipes that he kept since his university days. I've not cooked a proper meal in years. Tater sure can cook. It was delicious with a creamy wine sauce ( not that kind of cream! ). Chatted over dinner about his future career plans and his upcoming Antarctic Marathon ( yes, his goal is to run a marathon in every continent and I can't even finish a half I suspect LOL ). For dessert, he bought a carrot cake from Barcook Bakery ( check out the cake and his ARMS ). A rare way to celebrate ones birthday. Very sweet of him. Later in the week, Kidz rang me up for dinner. Surprised that he was able to make it for that time slot. Turns out he no longer works the graveyard shift. He treated me to a hamburger steak at Ma Mai

KLIA2 Celebrities: Four-eyed Fred

Image
Time to revive my flagging readership with some eye candy. Caught sight of Four-eyed Fred  at KLIA2 while I was lining up at the AirAsia counter. Couldn't find the Premium Flex counter at its usual location, so I thought that they had done away with it. And the ground staff didn't tell me that it had moved to X, just told me to join the long queue. Thank goodness it only took me thirty minutes and I had plenty of time to spare. And of course that delay gave me the opportunity to photograph our specky specimen of Korean descent. Look at those thick lips. Sign of a high sex drive! The reason I only got his head ( not dick head ) was because he was queuing directly behind me. Not easy to take a shot while I'm facing the other side. Kinda happy with the results. Too bad I couldn't photograph his hunkier friend. Annyeonghaseyo !

PUMA Run

Image
KH had registered for the PUMA night run, but at the last minute, he decided to pull out due to 'health' reasons. But that did not stop him from collecting the race pack at Setia City Mall. He asked me to accompany him and so I was his navigator. Was a bit confused about the venue at first as the organizers used the name Setia Alam Mall. That definitely didn't come up in Waze. Couldn't even get this detail right in their official correspondence. Gosh. Anyway, half an hour and MYR7+ of toll later, we arrived at the place. Virgin trip there actually. Impressed with the mall. Looks above average with a good mixture of brands and plenty of food choices. The collection counter was actually at Setia Alam Convention Centre, just within walking distance of the mall. Settled that in no time flat. Quite amused by their "Male Collection" and "Female Collection" signs. If I knew there was a "Male Collection", I would have registered too. Our next

KLIA2 Fail

Image
Usually, I fly out of Changi on the 1910 Air Asia flight. That day, the flight was delayed for 45 minutes due to inclement weather around KLIA2. Waited on the tarmac for control tower clearance. Outside the cockpit, the flight attendants were busying themselves trying to find stowage for a stray bag. Everything had been filled up. In the end, they just left it outside. Think it was because too many Indian nationals boarded that evening and they all bought a whole lot of Canadian Club! When we arrived at KLIA2, it had stopped raining. More bad news ensued. The plane docked at the furthest gate and even by the time I got to the baggage claim, my luggage wasn't there yet. Not a surprise but what was REALLY surprising was the fact that I saw 7 other flights queued at the same belt. Had to wait for luggage from Taipei, Bandar Seri Begawan and Surabaya to clear before it was our turn. Took more than an hour with passengers from the multiple flights crowding at the same belt. Chaos. You

Deepavali... 2014!

Image
Like years past, I did not get any open house invitations for Deepavali and never bothered with the MIC functions, so the public holiday was spent shopping instead. Headed out quite early to One Utama, picking up KH along the way ( bonding session? ). Plenty of parking since we arrived so early and I guess many people took leave to balik kampung . Typical decorations of kolam at the mall, but this year they had a fat, squat and sequined peacock to liven things up. LOL. We watched a Korean movie called "Wedding Palace" , about a guy who has to get married before 30 or he'd die from an ancient curse. No subtitles at all, but I think my mum understood the general plot with my feedback at the important plot twists. No worries about talking during the movie since there were only two other people in the hall. The main actor Brian Tee had the look of someone who could star in Peter Le's "The Asiancy". Ate lunch at Ichiro Sushi , a hidden restaurant in Isetan

KL, Kari, KH, Kawan

As usual, Saturday was a marketing day for me. There was a BEC Gathering that night, so mum wanted to buy some ingredients for the potluck. My favourite noodles stall was closed so we tried a stall that we had never tried before. Airy and spacious, and the curry noodles were quite good too. Lunch we had home. Packed some Anson CCF from a factory at Jalan Hujan Rahmat. Surprisingly, it looked authentic, but taste wise it was too sweet and not quite as fragrant. In the afternoon, KH came a-calling. With no place better to go, we had drinks at Ocean Bubble House . First time there since they moved to the adjacent shop lot. Some additions to the menu, most obvious was the brewed coffee section. The place is now more 'open' with less opportunity for us to be a little naughty. Or perhaps we should just be openly naughty Haha. In the evening, I had rosary prayer session at a house in Jalan Badang. The area is just beside the highway, so getting there can be a little tricky if no

Surprise Singapore Sunday

Image
KH did some research and found a mass time that he was agreeable with. His requirements were specific. The church had to be nearby and the mass time not too early ( he needed his beauty sleep and morning skank ). The best candidate was the 10:00 am mass at St. Joseph's Church. I should thank him for it because they have a wonderful cathedral mass at that slot every Sunday. Not that St. Joseph's is a cathedral, just that the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is closed for major restoration for two years. So they have it at a nearby church. The best thing about mass there is the Cathedral Choir of the Risen Christ, headed by Peter Low. According to Wiki, the choir has gone on numerous tours around the world, even singing for the Pope and his audience of 30,000 on June 5, 1985 at Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican City. Every Sunday morning, there would be a procession into the church with a standard that was blessed by Pope Saint John Paul II. Think there are about forty of &

Surprise Singapore Saturday

After a good night's sleep, KH was ready for another round of skanking. But the exertion triggered his sneezing fits again. Ops. Pain after pleasure. We had a brunch date with Tater that day. Met up at Bugis before walking over to Symmetry at Jalan Kubor. Took a slow leisurely walk because KH was sneezing, my legs were tired from squatting (;P) and Tater had just finished a 32KM run that morning. As expected, the place was full, but they had an al fresco option for us. Much better actually, less claustrophobic. And since it was an end lot, they had a large patch of shade of to put several tables. No problems with the heat as they had fans at strategic locations and even a refreshment stand outside. Servers were also stationed outside, providing attentive and friendly service. To refill my emptied tank, I ordered the Symmetry Eggs Sur Le Plat, while KH went for the Ham Hock & Pancetta Steak. Food was quite good with pretty presentation. Even the biscuit that came with my lat
