Arashiyama Alamanda

Heard some rave reviews for "M for Malaysia" from FB friends, and JJ. Found it kinda fitting to watch a documentary about GE14 on Malaysia Day. Did a quick search on the GSC app and the best choice was Alamanda Putrajaya. Not exactly near, and I was worried that the mall was dead. Gave it a try anyway for lack of a better option. Mum and I walked in the hall with barely 2 minutes to spare. In my opinion, it was worth the RM16 ticket price because it was never before seen footage by Tun M's granddaughter. An inside scoop, often shot from behind Tun M's shoulder. But it wasn't the campaigning and interviews that caught my attention, it was the personal moments. Extremely heartwarming to see the private side of Tun M and Toh Puan Siti Hasmah. Their love for each other shows. The elder statesman melts in the presence of his wife. After the movie, we did a little window shopping. My assumption that IOI City Mall had killed Alamanda Putrajaya was proven wrong. Bu

Sister and Staycation

Years ago, I bought a cool blue and white shirt from an online merchant. The sizing was a bit off actually-- I couldn't button it all the way up. During my Vancouver trip in 2014, I brought it along, but by that time, I couldn't button it up at all! Opps. This year, I dug it out from an old suitcase, threw it in the washer, and decided to give it another try. Gosh, I could finally fit into it. Thank you Nu Skin TR90! So, I wore that to work on casual Friday. That Friday, I got a FB message from Nicky05's darling who had spotted me at my workplace. He recognized me from my shirt ( I had posted in FB earlier in the day ). Turns out that we both work in the same office complex. Such a small world. I ate lunch with SK at Bankara Ramen , Avenue K. CNY was still heavy in the air because while we were eating, a lion dance was going on in the cramped restaurant! Then it was coffee at Juan Valdez . To celebrate my sister's birthday, we had a movie night at IOI Mall. For

You Mean the World to Me

Bro was in town for mum's birthday, so as usual he would arrive on Thursday night and fly back to Singapore on Sunday night. Every Sunday he would join us for mass, and after that we would go for lunch. This year, I tweaked that plan a bit. We went for early English mass to catch a movie at noon-- "You Mean the World to Me" , Malaysia's first Hokkien film. Some 'big' names in it-- Frederick Lee ( looks oh-so-familiar because he is Christopher Lee's brother ),  Steve Yap, John Tan, and Neo Swee Lin ( from Phua Chu Kang fame ). Steve Yap plays the down-and-out drunkard father who was cheated out of the family fortune by his brother, and yet manages to maintain his hunkiness. John Tan plays the crazy brother who has the mentality of a sexed-up Standard One boy, but somehow manages to be all buffed. See the pattern? LOL. Anyway, the story is based on the events in the life of the director. A heavy theme about social stigma and family ties. There's some i

Peng, Pokka, and Porcupine

Recently heard that one of my Form 6 classmates had moved back to KL from Singapore. She had been working there for a decade. It had been years since I met her, so together with Peng ( another Form Six classmate ) we planned a CNY get together. We met up at Peng's condo in Bukit Jalil. The security was more stringent than usual. Visitors register at the gate AND at the lift lobby. But that does not gain you access. The host must personally bring the guests up. Leceh . Anyway, the gathering didn't materialize as planned. The friend that we were supposed to meet had to cancel because her mother-in-law was suddenly warded for pneumonia. Whatever the case, we got to catch up with Peng. Basically had our lunch there munching on the biscuits and snacks. In the evening, had a movie and dinner date with The Tribe. Customary to watch a crappy CNY production. This year we chose "The Fortune Handbook" , a horrible export from Singapore starring Mark Lee and Christopher Lee
